Past Study Events at the 2009 Festival:
Shakespeare comes to Glyndebourne

For the 2009 Festival Glyndebourne presented two full-day study events in collaboration with Globe Education to look in-depth at our Shakespeare inspired productions – Purcell’s The Fairy Queen (an adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Verdi’s Falstaff (an adaptation of The Merry Wives of Windsor). Both events were presented by BBC arts correspondent, Rebecca Jones.

The Fairy Queen

Sunday 10 May
Speaker included Professor Tony Howard, Warwick University with actors, Pippa Nixon and Michael Manus from Shakespeare’s Globe, Purcell experts Andrew Pinnock and Bruce Wood and conductors, William Christie and Laurence Cummings with singers Sean Clayton and Claire Debono and the director of the new production, Jonathan Kent.

Sunday 17 May
Speakers included: Vladimir Jurowski (Music Director), Roger Parker (Verdi specialist) with actors from Shakespeare’s Globe and singers from Glyndebourne Festival Opera.


Rusalka

Sunday 5 July

“I want people to have the opportunity to get lost in the magic of this fairytale” Melly Still. Director Melly Still discussed her production along with Patrick Lambert (Czech music specialist) and singers from Glyndebourne Festival Opera.
