Workshops for Schools

Available 6–17 October

Glyndebourne enjoys a long history of delivering workshops which prepare young people for their first visit to an opera, and teachers around the country appreciate not only the educational value, but also the sheer enjoyment experienced by their students at both workshops and performances.

Who Are They For?

These workshops are aimed at both primary and secondary schools, and are designed to allow young people to get the most out of the performance they will see at Glyndebourne.

For a total price of £100, a team from Glyndebourne (including an animateur, pianist and singers) will visit your school, and deliver a session lasting 2 hours 30 minutes.

What Happens in a Workshop?

During the workshop the concept of opera will be introduced, as well as the specifics of the opera they are attending, through a combination of engaging practical activities. These activities include physical and vocal warm-ups, drama work, musical listening exercises, singing and discussion.

Throughout the workshop, the students will be introduced to the music, themes, characters and social issues from the opera.  They also explore the historical background and production and have the opportunity to hear singers from the company performing extracts.
