students join in with the primary performance - photo by Dave Illman
Now in its fifth year, the Glyndebourne on Tour primary project is taking on a different format than in previous years. This year, instead of taking a performance into primary schools, we will be inviting primary-aged children and their teachers to join us at a professional theatre venue for an exciting performance of Mozart's opera The Magic Flute . Using Mozart's music arranged by Dominic Harlan, with a new and intimate approach to the story by Brendan Murray, three singers (accompanied by flute and piano) retell this bewitching tale with help from the audience.
The performances involve active participation from children with professional singers and the fundamentals of set, costume, story and music.
As well as being performed in our Touring Venues, this production will also come to Glyndebourne for two special Performances for Schools on December 15th at 11am and 2pm.
How to get involved

'Opera is the perfect introduction to classical and contemporary music for children, combining the music with characters and plot to make it relevant. This project was music education at its very best.' Angela Lowrie, Downs Junior School, Brighton
‘All the teachers felt that this was an exceptional experience for the children … they all had a wonderful time.’
