Coming up in 2018

Happy new year from everyone at Glyndebourne. 2018 promises to be a particularly exciting year for us, with the launch of a major new singing competition, the 50th anniversary of the Tour and a stellar Festival programme.

Here are some of the highlights…

Glyndebourne Opera Cup (March 2018)

The Glyndebourne Opera Cup is a new international competition for opera singers, which will culminate with a grand final at Glyndebourne on Saturday 24 March.

Artists from all over the world have entered the competition, with 44 different nationalities represented. The competition jury will award five prizes, including a top prize of £15,000 for the winner and the offer of a role at one of the leading opera houses represented on the jury within five years.

Sebastian F. Schwarz, who founded the Opera Cup, will be representing Glyndebourne at the competition, supported by an amazing jury of representatives from top international opera houses. We are also delighted that Dame Janet Baker, whose own early career was fostered by Glyndebourne, is the competitions honorary president.

How can you get involved?

The final has sold out but tickets are still available for the semi-final at Glyndebourne on 22 March.

This year we are celebrating half a century of taking our productions on the road. With the support of the Arts Council, the Tour brings the full, extraordinary Glyndebourne stage experience to different parts of the UK.

To celebrate this milestone year we’ve commissioned a new production of Massenet’s Cendrillon (Cinderella) from Fiona Shaw. Also on Tour is Tom Cairns’s popular version of La traviata and we will be presenting a glimpse beneath the surface of Verdi’s masterpiece with the accompanying show, La traviata: Behind the Curtain.
