Cast change: Kate Lindsey in La clemenza di Tito

Posted On

Glyndebourne congratulates Kate Lindsey on her pregnancy, unfortunately this means that she will not be performing Sesto in this summer’s production of La clemenza di Tito. We are looking forward to welcoming her back in 2018 to sing Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier.

Replacing her in the role of Sesto is Anna Stéphany, who was formerly to play Annio, a role that will now be shared by Michèle Losier (26 and 31 July; 3, 8, 11, 16, 24 and 26 August) and Rachel Kelly (19 and 21 August).

Anna Stéphany is a Guildhall Gold Medal recipient, represented England at BBC Cardiff Singer of the World and is a winner of the Kathleen Ferrier Award. Her past roles include Charlotte in Werther, Romeo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Sesto in La clemenza di Tito, Dorabella in Così fan tutte (all Opernhaus Zürich); and Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier at the Royal Opera House.

Canadian Michèle Losier appears at Glyndebourne for the first time this summer. She has distinguished herself in roles such as Ascanio (Benvenuto Cellini) at the Dutch National Opera, Medea (Charpentier) at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Prince Charmant (Cendrillon) at Opéra-Comique, Nicklausse (Les contes d’Hoffmann) at Teatre del Liceu , Charlotte (Werther) at Opéra de Montréal and in Sydney, Sesto (La clemenza di Tito) at Wiener Staatsoper and Théâtre royal de la Monnaie, Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) at San Francisco Opera, Dorabella (Così fan tutte) at the Royal Opera House, Opera de Paris and at the Salzburg Festival, and Siebel (Faust) at the Metropolitan Opera.

Rachel Kelly is a recent graduate of the Royal Opera House’s Jette Parker Young Artist Programme, where she appeared as Zaida in Il turco in Italia, Javotte in Manon, and Mirinda in L’Ormindo, among other roles. The current season brings a return to Opera di Firenze as Idamante (Idomeneo) and a role-debut as Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) with Northern Ireland Opera. Previous roles include Nerone (Agrippina) with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, Nancy (Albert Herring) at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Jomelli’s little-known Il vologeso with Classical Opera, and Teresa (La sonnambula) with the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.

La clemenza di Tito is at the 2017 Glyndebourne Festival from 26 July – 26 August.
