The Glyndebourne Youth Opera project, Tycho’s Dream, composed by Luke Styles, has been shortlisted in the Community or Educational Project category of the 2015 British Composer Awards.

Luke Styles was Glyndebourne’s Young Composer in Residence between 2011 and 2014. Tycho’s Dream premiered on the main stage at Glyndebourne in November 2014 and was performed by members of Glyndebourne Youth Opera (GYO) alongside two professional singers, and an orchestra featuring young instrumentalists.

GYO offers young people aged 9 -19 living within 25 miles of Glyndebourne the chance to participate in opera workshops and audition to be part of exciting performance projects. Its next performance is a new commission based on Nothing, the award-winning book for young adults by Danish author Janne Teller. Nothing is performed in February 2016 and will be the first project to take place in the 30th anniversary year of the creation of Glyndebourne’s education department.

The winners of the British Composer Awards will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on Wednesday 9 December. A recording of the event will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on Saturday 12 December.
