A new musical show for schools and families gives five performances at the Brighton Dome next week as part of the 2014 Glyndebourne Tour.

Songs About Us was devised and directed by Dominic Harlan, a pianist, performer, and composer who specialises in introducing children to opera and music-theatre and regularly devises projects for leading UK arts institutions including Glyndebourne, Wigmore Hall and Opera North.

The show, which features soldiers, convicts, love and slapstick, explores the gripping stories of eight different songs from some of the world’s greatest songwriters. The audience can choose to direct, sing and act with the performers by having their say on how the action should unfold.

Dominic performs in the piece alongside soprano, Sarah Gabriel, and baritone, Paul Carey Jones.

A family performance of Songs About Us takes place at 3pm on Sunday 5 October. Four dedicated schools performances for primary school pupils aged 7 – 10 take place at 11am and 1pm on Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 October. Book through the Brighton Dome Box Office on 01273 709 709.
