Sir George Christie awarded the Lifetime Achievement award at the first Opera Awards

Sir George Christie, former Chairman of Glyndebourne, is to be awarded the Lifetime Achievement award at tonight’s (22 April) inaugural “Opera Awards”: .

The award recognises Sir George’s immense contribution to the art form through his life-long involvement with Glyndebourne. Sir George is the son of Glyndebourne founder, John Christie, and grew up at Glyndebourne before becoming Chairman in 1958, a position he held for 41 years. During that time, Sir George oversaw two of the most significant developments to take place at Glyndebourne since the organisation was founded in 1934
