Studied singing at Webber-Douglas School, toured USA and Canada in The Beggar’s Opera 1927-28, sang with Carl Rosa Company from 1929 until marriage to John Christie in 1931. Co-founder of Glyndebourne Festival and of the Edinburgh Festival.
