Podcast FAQs

What is a podcast?
A podcast is episodic programming delivered via the Internet. Podcast episodes can be audio files, video files, documents or any combination of the three -- the Glyndebourne podcast consists only of audio files. You subscribe to the podcast using software, such as iTunes, which automatically downloads new epiosdes.
Do I need an iPod?
No. Although you can download podcasts to your iPod to play them on the go, you can listen to podcasts on your computer, using iTunes or any other music playing software.
Why is it called a “podcast?”
"Podcast" is a combination of the words "iPod" and "broadcast," the Apple iPod being the brand of portable media player for which the first podcasting scripts were developed. Such scripts allow podcasts to be automatically transferred to a mobile device after they are downloaded.
How do podcasts work?
Podcasts consist of the episode files that you download, and an XML file that lists all the episodes. When you subscribe to a podcast, iTunes, or your software of choice, reads the XML file and downloads the latest episode. Each day, the podcasting software rereads the XML file. If a new episode is available, the software downloads it automatically.
How much does the Glyndebourne podcast cost?
